As I sit at my desk in my home office, staring at the gloomy March skies, I can only think back to how different my backdrop was last week, as I was lucky enough to be looking out at the snow-capped peaks of Les Arcs. The venture to the majestic mountainous ski resort was as a result of achieving my yearly target and qualifying for our annual incentive trip abroad.
For me, this trip held special significance—it wasn't just a ski vacation; it was a testament to months of hard work, dedication and receiving recognition for everything that I had achieved over the last year with Kinetica.
However, in recent years, there has been some scepticism surrounding traditional incentives, particularly incentive trips abroad. Critics argue that such incentives perpetuate “Wolf of Wall Street” style stereotypes and promote a superficial lifestyle image. But are these incentives truly outdated, or do they still hold value in today's recruitment landscape?
Here are a few reasons why Kinetica has chosen to continue incentives and why we feel they remain important to our organisation:
- Recognition and Appreciation: Incentives serve as a tangible form of recognition and appreciation for the hard work and dedication of our staff members. As a business we want to acknowledge our employees contributions and provide them with meaningful rewards to show how much we value the work they deliver. Without our employees, there would be no business; so we want to ensure they receive the best possible incentives for their work.
- Team Building and Collaboration: Incentive trips abroad provide opportunities for team members to bond, and to get to know one another in a relaxed environment. Your average working day can be hectic and providing employees the opportunity to build relationships in a social environment, fosters a close-knit team dynamic which is crucial in the high-pressure world of recruitment.
- Employee Well-being and Work-Life Balance: Contrary to the notion that incentives solely promote a flashy lifestyle, they can also contribute to employee well-being and work-life balance. Taking time off to enjoy a well-deserved trip abroad can help alleviate stress, prevent burnout, and recharge employees both personally and professionally.
In conclusion, while there may be criticisms surrounding traditional recruitment incentives, their importance and relevance in the modern recruitment industry should not be underestimated. When thoughtfully implemented, incentives play a vital role in rewarding our employees whilst also fostering a thriving organisational culture. Instead of viewing incentives as outdated or cliché, let us recognise their potential to inspire greatness and elevate the recruitment profession to new heights.
